Take a Red Pill (On Staying Awake, Even in America)

by Laura on January 23, 2013

A quick mid-week devotional vlog to remind myself to Stay. Awake.

Here’s a short video of me, then a short clip from the movie The Matrix, which I talk about in the vlog. (Subscribers will need to click through to the site to view the videos.)

So, how about you? Feeling sleepy about anything lately? Need to wake up and re-engage in an area?

On a scale of 1-10, how spiritually alive do you feel today?

    Love it Laura!
I’m so with you on staying awake amongst the busyness of just doing life. Just finished watching the first half of the Human Trafficking movie on Netflix, so I’m awake tonight! Sending prayers your way as you sacrifice having your husband safe at home in America today, to accomplish something of eternal significance.

Oh, thanks, Tricia. That movie is intense, right? Really heavy. Proud of you for hanging in there and watching it, friend! Media is such a powerful tool, right?

Hope ya’ll are doing well. :)

Unique analogy. I took the Red pill years ago and discovered those that wanted to stay in or return to the Matrix (world as it seems to be). I have seen and experience many fantastic events by God and Satan and People. Using your example, I try to encourage people to “step over” but caution them, there is NO return and their people problems will more often come from the Christian environment (sounds like the film, huh?).

Great point about making commitment to follow Christ, and then getting hammered by the others “following”. My mom always said, “It’s not the ministry that will get you. It’s the other Christians you work with.” As a pastor’s wife, she got that, I reckon.

      Thanks, Gary!

So if I’ve taken the truth pill, and I’m living in the real reality, when can I get that plug thingy for the back of my neck so I can know stuff? Would be an excellent tool for language learning. “I know kung fu.” And I want a cooler real reality name like the ones they have. Trade Mr. Anderson for Neo? Heck yes! I wonder what my real reality name could be? Neo didn’t get to pick his, did he? Or was that his hacker name? Fun stuff. 😀

Um, yes, you definitely deserve a cool name:

      Wonder Woman?

      Oh, wait, that’s already been done . . .

      :)

    great challenge!

so… what happens when you need a break from the red pill life just, just because…??? just kidding… sorta… i think…

i think it is easy to fall into that sort of dazed walk and that we missos like to characterize as more commonplace in our westernized, civilized home countries. but i also know it is just as easy to fall into the same unconcerned, breezing through life gait here and people (me included) assume i don’t/haven’t because of the inconvenient parts of life here. yet i can easily become immunized or anesthetized to horrible and i stop letting it impact, hurt and break my heart – every day. just because i’ve swallowed the pill once doesn’t mean i don’t still need to choose to take that medicine every day, regardless of where i am.

ABSOLUTELY, Richelle. I think it’s taking the pill again and again and again. Many times in a day. And it totally doesn’t matter where you live. I do think that regardless of where you are, if you are struggling (which I was my entire time overseas!) there’s a stronger wake up call to the spiritual world. It’s when things are rocking along in a “normal” way that it feels easier to fall asleep.
Hope you are doing well, friend.
