The Space We Now Call Home

by Laura on July 31, 2010

So sorry for the last week of quiet!  As most of you have suspected, the recent move has given us fresh ways to practice patience with our Internet (again).  I won’t have access at home for a while, so things may be a bit quieter around these parts.  Until then, I wanted to show some pictures of our new (much cheaper) house.  It’s only 5 minutes away from the orphanage, has plenty of space, and is a short walk away from a neighborhood pool.  Because we are now in a much more rural area (and I recognize that my defintion of “rural” is laughable to some), there are beautiful rice fields right down our road.  Of course, “more rural” in Thailand means more mosquitoes, less aircon (and none downstairs), only one bathroom with hot water, an outside laundry “room,” water with a slightly-brownish tint, and sketchy internet.  Oh, and more critters, too.  (You can pray I won’t be too freaked out by the lizards or giant roaches.  And if I see mice, well, this city-chic may just have to check into the Hilton. Just kidding, I’m not that much of a wimp.  Okay, no, I guess I am.)

{And, no, the squatty potty pictured above is not one of the main bathrooms in the house.  We do have Western toliets.  This bathroom is in the back alongside a tiny room, designed for a live-in maid–which we don’t have.}

What do you love most about the space you call home right now?

    Oh Laura, I am so glad to see you are moved in. You did a great job getting yourself settled. That squatty potty is hilarious! The Wednesday girls were so bummed we couldnt do our Skype call with you last week but hopefully your internet will be up and working soon. Until then, march forward! You will figure it out…just like you always do. You are such a trooper. Seriously. I admire you and what you are doing immensely. And by the way, the thing I am enjoying most about my new house space is just that….SPACE! Love to you all, Darla

    Dearest,
    Life moves on, doesn’t it? I like your new house, just wish we could have helped you move. What is your new address? We’re back from the beach with A. B and U. R who leave on Monday. Cas leaves on Tuesday and all will be too, too quiet with summer over! But, what a summer because of our time with you! Love, MOM P.S. Praying for the team there now.

      Hey Momma . . . Thanks for the comment. And yes, work-wise, I wish ya’ll could have helped us move. BUT, on the up-swing, there are tons more mosquitoes, so maybe Dad wouldn’t have fallen in such love with Thailand, after all! Love you guys. Miss you. Bunches. love, LL

      Oh, Laura (like your name, BTW),

      Thanks for visiting us over here! I LOVE the name of your site, and will be visiting over your way later on today. I actually have a little bit of time with internet access and no kids! THanks for the encouragement, friend.

    My Ethiopian born raised in America now at an international school with a British teacher says you have a “brilliant” house. I love that he sounds like a little Brit sometimes :-) .
