“Look, I am about to do something new. Now it begins to happen. Do you not recognize it? Yes, I will make a road in the desert and paths in the wilderness.”
{Isaiah 43:19}
. . . and p.s., yes, that is, indeed, me saying “woo, doggie” on the above clip.

Hi Laura,
I stumbled across your blog today and must say that your story fascinates me. As a recent college graduate (c/o 2010), I too have a heart for travel, helping others, and adventure. I am contacting you because I plan to take a TESOL course in Chiang Mai this July and have heard nothing but bad news from the US government and various media outlets concerning the civil unrest in Thailand. I am a believer in “when your time is up, it’s up”…however, I still do not want to walk into the situation naively. I figure it is best to at least try and get information and experiences from an American in Chiang Mai first-hand. Any information you could spare about your experiences in Chiang Mai and if the dispute has affected you and your family would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations on ELEVEN years of marriage ma’am and I shall keep you in my prayers!
Simone, how fun that you will be here in a few months! Honestly, things are totally quiet here now. There was one night a week ago when there was a smallish demonstration in Chiang Mai, but since then, we haven’t heard or seen anything unusual. We are actually hosting my parents in June, and a team in July and feel completely confident that things are safe. I know the pictures/videos of Bangkok looked scary, but things in Chiang Mai have been quite quiet, as far as we can tell.
How long will you be here in Chiang Mai? Feel free to email me with any more questions or if you want to visit us or the orpahange when you arrive.

Laura — In the video of the girls helping with the brick, if it’s “150″ degrees why do some of the girls have on jackets or long sleeve shirts? Hang in there girl. We are still praying and thinking of you all the time. Happy Birthday Cade!
you know, first they are much more used to the heat than we colorado-people are. secondly, they HATE getting tans and try to cover up as much as possible when out in the sun!
