What I NEED to Know

by Laura on March 24, 2010

I am leaving the United States in six days, six days

And I am feeling overwhelmed by all that I don’t know.  I don’t know the details of the Buddhist religion, which claims 95% of the nation’s population.  I don’t know the nuances of the Thai culture, and I haven’t spent much time with the language Cd’s we purchased, so all I can say is a stumbled “hello” in the native tongue.  Driving, fixing meals, doing laundry, and homeschooling are all going to look vastly different for me in six days, and I have no idea how I’m going to do them all well.

But here is the jewel I found this morning in the Bible, the nugget of Truth that pulled my eyes to the only thing I really need to know.  It was written by perhaps the greatest missionary of all time, the apostle Paul:

“And I, when I came to you, I did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.  For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.  I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.  And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

[ Paul, 1 corinthians 2: 1 - 5]

“I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” – this spoken by the greatest Christian missionary of all time.   A man who was most qualified because of  his education and training to operate out of knowledge chose to know nothing except Jesus and His obedience.  That’s all.  Jesus.

And the way He loved.  And the way He served.  And the way He spoke Truth.  And the way He offered Hope.  Just Jesus.

And that was more than enough for Paul.

And it will be more than enough for me {and you},  too.

I’m praying for you guys!!!! Transition is always hard, but y’all have come through this amazingly. I remembered this verse when reading your post (and it took a while for me to find the reference, believe me!): 1 Peter 4:11-”If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

Like you said- you may not know the Thai language.. but you know the language of love:) and that’s the most important part. God bless you and your family in this. I love your humble, beautiful heart!

Wait. Take two. My last comment sounded like morse code. Delete it.

These powerful words have credibility because they are spoken out of a real life experience. What a wild Jesus Following journey you are on…

Thank you for letting us all ride on this journey ‘Over Seas’ with you. Keep writing. We’re listening.

Drew and I have been thinking about your family, and we will be praying for your safe travel and for your work. I’ve been thinking about you when I listen to “When the Saints” by Sara Groves. There’s a great line about young girls huddled on the brothel floor and men with a passion knocking down the door to set them free. You are all doing a great thing.

I can’t tell you how I enjoy your truth and honesty. You have no idea how much your words and your family help others! Even though you are going to be way over seas… know that we are still listening and enjoy hearing about your daily struggles because we are right there with you. Praying for you guys!

Thailand Shop April 15, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Good morning!
I’ve been doing a lot of research online lately regarding traffic and Search Engine Optimization since I just started an Thailand Shop with a couple of buddies.
The content of your website is awesome and I’d really like to exchange links with you. Have a look at our website if you want, we put a lot of work and effort into it and are dedicated to improve it constantly.
I can’t offer any high Google Pagerank right now as we just started but nevertheless we receive a lot of hits already (contact me for visitor stats) and I think both our sites can benefit from one another.
Anyway, just thought I’d share my thoughts with you – keep up the good work buddy and contact me if interested!
