My amazing sister Amy turns the big 3-0 today. Only 2 years separates us (but I won’t tell you how old I am), and the older we both get, the more we like each other, really. I admire this girl on so many levels. She is authentic and beautiful; she’s a strong leader and a thoughtful friend. She is loyal and organized and funny and stylish. She is an excellent cook and a brilliant hostess. And it’s not just what she has become that endears her to my heart, it’s also the connection of the past that we share that knits us together. I remember when mom dressed us up in matching yellow outfits with parasols to perform White Christmas’s song, “Sisters,” and I remember always being on the same team against our older brother. I remember watching Little House as elementary kids, and I remember rich dinner conversations as adults. I also remember enduring the “Trip of Terror” with she and her husband Will (you can read about that here), and laughing hysterically over her old middle school love letters we found this past Christmas.
From talent show performances to battling the WWF-Wanna-Be-Brother to surviving Pikes Peak, we’ve often ended up on the same team, and I’m so glad of that. Sisters are such a gift, and I am beyond grateful that I have such fabulous ones. Happy Birthday, Amy!
p.s.- To my family who has heard us tell the “Pikes Peak” story, this is the picture of literally how far away we were from the edge when Will insisted we not go any closer, for fear of somehow slipping off the mountain. Yup, we weren’t making that up.

AWWW, Thanks LL. You made me all teary (side note: when you turn 30, do you cry more??? I’m thinking maybe so).
A few things I love about my sister:
1- Her obvious talent and love for writing. She has a way with words that truly inspire me everyday to be a better person, keep me connected with my family in CO, and live a better, more fulfilled life.
2- Her Huge heart that loves on sooo many people- her husband, kids, family, sisters, friends, orphanes that she hasn’t even met yet, random folks at The Donut Mill, etc.
3- Her ability to be silly and completely herself! She always talks about how geniune I am but, she has definitely learned a thing or two from her little sis on that! She dances with her kids to High School Musical (1, 2, and 3!!), plays Bad Tiger on the trampoline, creates innovative cheers, and dances like Paula Abdul (yeah, I said it!).
4- Her love for the Lord. She’s ok with having doubt in her faith and she tells us all this honestly and openly on the interwebs. It shows me that no one is perfect and as long as you love Him with all your heart and soul then, you’re actions inevitably follow.
5- Her committment to me. This lady (and Cassie- had to give you a shot out) actually stalked about 15 different websites to find me these awesome, dark grey, mid-calf Steve Madden boots I have been dying for. I had the major sads when I thought we couldn’t get them and then she surprised me with finding them and mailing them super quick so that I could have them for this weekend’s festivites.
But, not only the awesome boots but, how much she is one of my biggest champions. She supports, encourages, and loves me everyday no matter what I do. So, Jessica (inside joke) please know that I also value our friendship more and more each day. I love you entirely and am so blessed to have you as a sis.
Love you tons,
Amy
geez . . . now i feel bad that YOU wrote more than ME for YOUR birthday. show-off.
love you.
and thanks . . . bunches.
Oh- and if I could have drawn tear drops on the “I Love You” part I would have (and not b/c I was actually crying- yes also an inside joke!)
Which brings me to reason #6 for loving my sis- all the inside jokes that makes us and only us giggle.
