To Risk

by Laura on September 26, 2009

Last night a friend spoke some words to us about what it means to really follow Jesus and His Ways.  He talked about how maybe it isn’t so much about choosing point A or point B, but maybe it’s more about being willing to risk everything for the sake of the Following.

And as I think about our own family’s future risks, I wrote this little piece this morning–not that I am any poet, but sometimes it’s just fun not to write in paragrahps.

To Risk

The Call is to risk.

To lay it all on the line

for the sake of the holy Following.

The Call is to drag yourself

and all you hold dear,

to the altar.

And to place on that stone,

Your comfort and money,

Your friendships and dreams,

Your children and

Your very life.

The Call is to uncurl your fingers

from around all of that,

And be willing for the fire to consume it.

And the Call may be to step forward,

or it may be to stand still,

But it is always to risk.

It all.
